6.05 pm It’s the last day, it is unbelievably hot and the internet has been down all day so I am typing this on to Word/memory stick and the MCF masters will be updating as soon as the signal comes back. Obviously, as you reading this, the signal has come back now. But I don’t know when now is.
So what has happened today? This morning, the boys went for the annual hike in the woods, a good seven miles I reckon, o’er moor and fen, o’er crag and torrent, it was spectacular. A few hardy souls decided to run the last mile or so with your intrepid scribe, always rather fun. I like to think it was worth at least two days’ worth of meals, but I am avoiding those bathroom scales like the plague for at least a week when I get back.
So what’s left to be said? Roll on the third test. Roll on the sunshine. Sad to be leaving, the boys have been truly wonderful, not a moment’s bother. (That is a massive lie, but to be fair, they were one of the best groups I have ever had.)
I do have one piece of interesting news.
Mrs Edmunds has fessed up! She went into town earlier and brought back, get this, a brand new Nestlé Crunch! It was hardly given in good grace, more a ‘now you can stop complaining’ snarl, but I accepted with the mundane charm and magnanimous style you would expect from your sons’ Trip Leader. After all, I know the truth. Wracked with shame and guilt, tossing and turning through sleepless nights of anguish, Lauren Did The Decent Thing. You all know me by now. I will let bygones be bygones and we won’t mention it again.
Oh, and there was a Talent Contest. They were all winners.
So now the boys are packing their bags and showering (not simultaneously, I hope), preparing for the 5 am start. (That’s 4 am BST, just so you can feel appropriately sympathetic when we get back.) Hopefully you will get a text after we get through the Channel Tunnel with our ETA.
Farewell, Maison Claire Fontaine, thank you to all your staff, they were superb, we love them all. I have smuggled Elodie into my suitcase, don’t tell the wife.
