Au revoir to an old friend

As Rupert Brooke so beautifully wrote in his First World War poem The Soldier, "there is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England".

Well in a far less poignant way that has been true for many years at MCF, with the old London Taxi slowly sinking into the corner of our very own foreign field by the garage.

What must have been one of the more unexpected and confusing sights for countless visitors to MCF for their French immersion week, the taxi has sat unmoving and unloved for over ten years bearing witness to countless games of football and listening to thousands of children enjoying the beautiful Burgundy sunshine.

We decided it was time for it to go - not least because it was sitting in the way of the construction of the new fence between us and our neighbours, the very lovely and Annie and Joel. The local car breakers were not at all sure what to make of it but seemed game to try and recycle as many parts as they could. Having dragged it onto the back of a low loader as you can see in the pictures it then made a very precarious journey to their yard in Avallon. Although we don't expect to see it cruising the streets of Avallon looking for fares any time soon we hope that it does more good in the future by being recycled than is was doing parked in our field.

Pictures of our new fence will follow shortly. We must confess that our excitement at this improvement to our site is tinged with sadness at the disappointed face of the neighbour's dog Boston who won't be able to join in with the football games quite so easily now. We are trying to get him to stand still long enough to take a picture showing his sad face but with so many balls to chase kicked into his garden from our sports equipment he is one very busy dog....
