Château de Bussy-Rabutin
The beautiful château of Bussy-Rabutin is well worth the 50 minute coach journey from Méluzien. From Lac Sauvin the journey is slightly longer but is a good option for a day trip combined with a visit to the nearby Anis de Flavigny factory.
In the build up lesson to this excursion, pupils are introduced to the intriguing relationship between Roger de Rabutin, Count of Bussy and his King, Louis XIV, at the court of Versailles. The story is completed and acted out at the château before a tour of the stunning rooms inside.
Our favourite part of the afternoon involves the maze in the gardens. Pupils are organised into teams and must overcome the maze challenge as well as ask and answer questions about their visit in order to become the grand victors.
The afternoon concludes with a walk through the gardens and an option of visiting the small gift shop on site.
This is a very popular excursion and is a fabulous combination of French history, culture and language as well as offering a challenge and competitive edge for the more active groups.
