Beaune
Situated in the heart of world famous and prestigious vineyards, Beaune has been designated the capital of Burgundy wines for good reason. It is a town full of art, history and culture with the famous Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune (Hospices de Beaune) at it’s centre. This former charitable almshouse is one of the finest examples of French fifteenth-century architecture, with its inner courtyard and colourful tiled roof. Radiating out are the cobbled streets with boutiques of all kinds from wine and food to avant-garde fashion. Within its ramparts the charming town reveals its historical mansions, medieval half-timbered houses, flowered squares and gardens.
Journey time is about an hour from Méluzien and 85 minutes from Lac Sauvin. We recommend this as a full day excursion option as there is so much to see and do !
A visit to the museum at the Hospices de Beaune is a must. Other options include the Fallot mustard factory or a morning excursion to the Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune nearby. There is also time for shopping and taking in the atmosphere of this most stunning of destinations in a more relaxed way for older groups. For whole day excursions we can provide a packed lunch or organise a croque monsieur at a local brasserie.
