Sculpture first began being used as an artistic medium in France during the 11th century, solely as a reserve of the Church to influence the masses.
Pupils have a wealth of opportunities to view fabulous examples of local sculpture on excursions during the week and particularly on the visits to Vezelay and Avallon.
These trips offer inspiration for this activity as pupils are shown how to develop their ideas using positive and negative sculpturing techniques.
Health and safety instructions are given in English but all other teaching points are given in French.
Pupils are encouraged to repeat and recall key vocabulary as well as ask for equipment and discuss their work in French throughout the task.
